Let’s journey to New Mexico….

Some New Mexico schools are seeing up to 20% increases in their math proficiency scores, thanks to a new program encouraging turnaround called the School Turnaround Specialist Program.  Administrators are spending more time in the schools, and state funding will be contingent on research- and data-based planning. They will also be looking at multiple data points to track change.

The key to this program, though, is that they aren’t simply sending in specialists.  The new program is also requiring the district to change structural practices around the schools.

Sounds like conditions and culture are changing fast.
