While You Were Out…

Welcome back to the work week!  Hitting the headlines today are the state assessment results in Chicago, where almost two-thirds of Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL) turnaround school students met or exceeded state standards.  AUSL schools also saw three times the growth of district scores as a whole.  Past results of AUSL scores show promising growth, however this new data will make their success story even stronger.

See the Sun-Times report here. Download preliminary Chicago Public School data here, or search for specific schools here.

Nearby, Brockton, MA is seeing some publicity.  You may recall its reputation for strong district-union collaboration and relations, and excellent test scores, considering its large size and percentage of low-income students (see Harvard Achievement Gap Initiative report). But now there is some turmoil between the School Committee and superintendent.  As Brockton is slated for some turnaround schools, let’s hope this does not affect its education progress.
