Good turnaround news out of Denver from Roland Fryer’s Blueprint Schools Network. Third graders at the three elementary schools each saw gains between 7 percent and 17 percent on a statewide reading test. Students in the tutoring program jumped from 8.8 percent proficient to 29 percent on a periodic math assessment. Attendance and graduation rates at Montbello High are up, and suspensions are down, reports Ed Week.
Smart approach, looks like our “3 C’s” from here: flexibility to bring in new leadership and staff, as needed (conditions); bringing in outside expertise through the Network (capacity); and organizing around a feeder pattern of nine schools (clustering).
