Mass Insight Education & Research hosts AP Summer Institute at Bridgewater State
BOSTON – July 22, 2019 – Teachers from across Massachusetts and beyond will head back into the classroom this summer. The twist: this week, they’re the students. Mass Insight Education & Research’s (Mass Insight) 11th annual Advanced Placement® Summer Institute (APSI) will kick off on July 22nd and run through August 2nd, 2019 at Bridgewater State University (BSU). The program provides comprehensive, subject-specific professional development led by College Board accredited instructors, offering teachers the support and training needed to teach a variety of AP courses.
The Institute is expected to have over 525 teachers attending this year over the course of the two weeks, including teachers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, China, Macedonia, Taiwan, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United Kingdom, in addition to those attending from Massachusetts. This is the seventh year that APSI will be held at BSU.
Advanced Placement teachers can receive training for the following courses: Biology, Calculus, Capstone™ (AP Seminar and AP Research), Chemistry, Computer Science A, Computer Science Principles, English Language & Composition, English Literature & Composition, Environmental Science, Human Geography, Physics 1, Physics C, Spanish Language & Culture, Statistics, U.S. Government & Politics, and U.S. History. Mass Insight’s is one of only nine summer institutes nationwide that is certified by the College Board to offer training courses for AP Capstone™.
Advanced Placement courses offer students the chance to earn college credit while still in high school and expose them to college-level coursework, preparing them for college and career success. Mass Insight’s AP STEM & English program was launched in 2007 and now partners with more than 75 high schools each year, serving over 10,000 students and over 600 teachers across Massachusetts. The program offers extensive training for AP and Pre-AP teachers, additional time on task for students through Saturday Study Sessions, and additional resources for schools. In 2016, 2017, and 2018, Massachusetts led the nation in the percentage of seniors earning a qualifying score on an AP exam.
