Carla Comeau

Carla enjoys bringing her STEM industry background into education, working with and supporting students and teachers to gain computer science (CS) content knowledge and promote participation in the AP CS program. She began her career as a computer programmer and software engineer for IBM Corporation, then entered education as a teacher, math department chair, and STEM Curriculum Coordinator. Carla's experiences in teaching mathematics encompass all courses at all levels in the span from grades 7 to 12, including AP Calculus AB & BC, and AP Statistics. She was the mathematics department chair for both Taconic High School and Pittsfield High School and Mass Insight Math Lead Teacher for the Berkshires Cluster. In 2011, as a STEM Curriculum Coordinator, Carla helped usher the new Common Core State Standards into Pittsfield Public Schools (PPS). At this time, she also managed and administered the Federal Race To The Top grant for PPS. From 2016-2018, Carla was an active member of the grade 10 MCAS 2.0 Assessment Development Team for the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Carla holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from the UMASS College of Mathematics Amherst. She also earned a M.S. degree in Education, with a concentration in Administration, from the MCLA Leadership Academy. (Mass College of Liberal Arts). Carla has also enjoys being a dance teacher for more than 20 years in Pittsfield, MA.
